James Chung-Li Sun, a resident of Ho-Ho-Kus and Ridgewood NJ, Taiwan, and China, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at the age of 86.  He will be deeply missed by his loving wife Teresa; his children John and his wife Anne, Angela, and Eleanor (Reilly) and her husband Steve; his eight grandchildren, James, Olivia, Danielle, Michael, Christina, Jessica, Jack, and Allie; along with his siblings Amy, Irene, and Ruby, and Michael.

James was born in Shanghai, China.  In 1949, his family moved to Taipei, Taiwan.  In 1960, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature at National Taiwan University.  He served in the Taiwan military as a translator.  He was the owner/president of a family run textile dyeing and weaving company in Taiwan.  In 1975, he moved to the U.S. with his wife and 3 children.

James had many passions including the arts, classical music, the ballet, literature, history, nature, travel, and hiking.  He loved talking about Chinese and Asian history in particular.  His photos of nature made all the subjects come to life. James also cherished all his friendships from college, his photography club and his hiking club in Taiwan.

James’ grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life. The legacy of his kind spirit, passion for nature and the arts, love of reading, and zest for life will live on through them.

James will be deeply missed and will be forever in our hearts.

A private funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at the George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ.
