Miracle
I am
touched by Bea tireless endeavors to get all of us to update our bio, &
it’s truly a great suggestion of Patrick’s proposal to do this on line class
reunion. I have enjoyed thoroughly reading all the emails of Sixty years
clouds reunion.
I have
enjoyed my work, both my business & community services, so I am not totally
retired yet. But since we have the convenience of iPhone & iPad, we have
been able to make numerous trips to our hearts content. We started to travel
extensively about 20 years ago, have made 20+ ocean & river cruises,
numerous land tours including 9 trips to China. We have 3 memorable
recent trips; the one to Malaysia for my husband’s 60th class reunion of Civil
Engineer department of Taida in the late October of 2017. Can you imagine all
in their early 80, & those classmates went all the way to Malaysia? Another
trip to Switzerland & nearby countries in the late September of the same
year, 2017, enjoyed gorgeous mountains of Matterhorn, Chamonix & Zermatt.
In July of 2017 , we went to Taipei for Wen’s auntie’s 90 year old birthday
celebration, it was a 10 day celebration of family mini reunion. Since Wen
& his aunt are only 5 years apart, they grew up together & very
close.
Something
shocking happened in June of 2018, my husband had a terrible fall while we were
visiting our son, Richard, in Houston. He had a right subdural hemorrhage &
underwent craniotomy with evacuation. He had a brain surgery with 32 stitches,
4 of the doctors told us he wouldn’t survive due to his age of 85. Even if they
could save his life, he would not be ever able to drink, eat nor talk! His fall
caused massive internal bleeding, it’s very severe because he was taking blood
thinner, Eliquis. It’s only internal bleeding, so if not because our son
told me to watch for his symptoms to report to him immediately, I wouldn’t have
thought of taking him to ER. Thankfully his severe condition happened to be our
son’s medical speciality, our son was able to manage & direct his miracle
recovery. He was in ICU for 10 days, then at TIRR Hospital for 4 weeks. He
was very lucky since our son is a medical director in one of the Hermann
Memorial hospital, with all the right connections, also much hard work &
support from family & friends, he has progressed to a level we never would
have imagined 23 months ago. Now since all of his doctors & therapists are
in Houston, we have moved into an independent living in a retired community in
the River Oaks district of Houston. Even though he has recovered remarkably
well, we no longer take long & far away trips & just travel between our
Houston home & home in Virginia. Our only other trips are to our winter
resort in Mexico. BTW, our son Richard was with us during our 40 year
class reunion to Canada, he was 19 & a junior in Duke University then,
time certainly has flied! He is 14 years younger than our oldest
daughter, 10 than our second daughter, so he is very close to us. We were
happily surprised that we could take a trip back to Virginia home just 4 months
after that terrible incident, & to our winter resort in 6 months.
We
enjoy staying in Houston, the Chinatown & Asian Town are very vibrant here,
we even have a large outdoor shopping area with a nickname of Taipei Si Meng
Ting. If any of you ever come to this area, please do let us know, it will
certainly be our pleasure to be the host & hostess here.
We
have been blessed with many family & friends visiting us in Houston,
Virginia home & winter resort in Mexico. We treasure & value all those
times we spend with family & friends.
My
lesson learned is DO NOT FALL, we are very fragile! Watch all unusual symptoms
no matter how small, early detection is critical!
May
good health, good luck & happiness follow everyone wherever you are, miss
you all!
Take
care!
